Higher education is not so good for football..... E-mail

yaleTom Williams is a first year head coach for the Yale Bulldogs. Before kickoff Yale was 4-5 and 2-4 in the Ivy League.

Coming into the game Yale had only beaten Harvard one time in the last eight years. The last time there was a string of wins like this was when Harvard had won eight of nine from Yale back in 1922. A win for Yale This win would have been big, very big, and especially for a first year head coach.

Perhaps you saw the game of the highlight, but if you didn't, you missed something really stupid done by people that are supposed to be very smart.

Last week we had Bill Belichick and his Wesleyan University education go for it on fourth and two up 6pts on his own 28 with just over 2 minutes remaining. This week we had Yale University go for a fake punt up 10-7 with 2:25 left on a fourth and twenty-two from their own 26 yard line!

yale2Yale ended up getting 17 yards on the play, but no cigar! Yes, they ended up losing. Three plays later, Collier Winters hit Chris Lorditch down the left seam for a 32-yard score.

I don't know where first year Yale head coach Tom Williams went to school but I'm fairly certain that no one gave him a competency test before giving him the head coaching job.

So what can we take from this?

  • Harvard, very smart... Yale, not so much...

Or

  • Higher education is not so good for football..... - Jason Lockhart

Jason is an aspiring sports journalist currently enrolled at Stanford University (Jason would also like to to know that Stanford is no Yale...)

If you haven't voted in our poll on the site yet please do so. We are trying to get a feel for how our readers are looking at the game of NCAA Football so we can write about things they want to hear. The poll question is, "Do you think the NCAA should have a Playoff to determine the National Champion rather than the BCS / Bowl System?"Please vote.
