BSC vs Playoffs....... STAY OUT OF IT CONGRESS !!! E-mail

obamaAs much grief as everyone gives the Bowl Championship Series (including myself) the system actually worked this year. America got to see the number one and number two teams play for the National Title. In the previous system we would have seen Alabama play in the Sugar Bowl against an inferior team like Cincinnati and Texas would have played in the Cotton Bowl. This would have left the media and all football fans debating on who the real champion is for the next 6 months.

While I am not a fan of the BCS, I would rather have this system where computers, sportswriters and coaches decide the fate of the teams rather than having the old system where we could of ended up with Alabama being number one in one poll and Texas being number one in another and neither of them being the unanimous Champion.

boycotbowlsThe latest poll (Quinnipiac University Poll) shows that 63% of the people are in favor of implementing a playoff system over the current Bowl Championship Series. In our own independent poll here on Xtra Point Football with 803 votes cast as of the publishing of this article over 55% our readers are in favor of a playoff. Either way you look at it, the majority of America appears to think like President Obama on this subject.

While fans are voting on a playoff system they don't want our government to get involved. The same polls indicate that a majority of the individuals polled want the government to stay out of it. Earlier this month, a House subcommittee approved legislation which would force college football to switch to a playoff system instead of the Bowl Championship Series. The bill, which will go to the full committee, would make it illegal to promote a national championship game "or make a similar representation," unless it results from a playoff. A new Political Action Committee (PAC) ran TV commercials in several States promoting a playoff system.

'You had a great season' - TV commercial pleads for playoffbillhancock

This is taking it too far. Congress and the rest of OUR politicians have much more important topics to be discussing. We are having one of the worst economic times this Country and the rest of the world has ever seen. There are some issues going on over in the Middle East that could use some consideration from our Government as well.

In summary, I believe we would all appreciate a playoff system in college football similar to the tournament we currently have with college basketball but right now the BSC is working well enough to continue with it for the next several years and let our elected Government Officials concentrate on the issues that will affect all of our living conditions for the next century. - Bob Bearden

If you haven't voted in our poll on the site yet please do so. We are trying to get a feel for how our readers are looking at the game of NCAA Football so we can write about things they want to hear. The poll question is, "Do you think the NCAA should have a Playoff to determine the National Champion rather than the BCS / Bowl System?"Please vote.

While I happen to think that a playoff system would be great, there is definitely no place in politics for the issue.

MLB has the Federal Anit-trust laws, so on some levels politics and baseball is fair game, but in no way should politics be apart of Collegiate Athletics

I completely understand that I am in the minority but I just don't see how anyone can be in favor of a playoff system. These are STUDENT Athletes. Why are so many people concerned about who wins amateur sporting events?
