Andy Reid opened up on Wednesday saying that the Eagles are entertaining offers for all three quarterbacks - Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick.
It has been reported that the St. Louis Rams put an offer on the table for McNabb that included the 33rd overall selection in the NFL draft and safety O.J Atogwe. Rams G.M. Billy Devaney said the rumor is "absolutely false." Unless we see otherwise, there is no reason not to take Devaney at his word.
Reid doesn't exactly seem to very eager to give up any of his quarterbacks. His comment was, "I'm not in a hurry to get rid of any of them." He likes them all; he just doesn't mind listening to offers. Why shouldn't he, what's the harm in listening?
While I would at listen to the offers, I wouldn't even think about trading McNabb now.
Reid said he would love the 33rd overall pick in the draft....., but is that really worth giving up McNabb? I don't see the logic in that. Since when is McNabb not good enough to start for the Eagles?
The one thing I don't understand is why everyone expects a trade involving McNabb to happen. Exactly why should the Eagles do this again? All I keep hearing is that this breakup has to happen. Sports Illustrated's Peter King even tweeted on Wednesday saying, "Give me a good reason for the Eagles NOT to trade McNabb... Impossible. There is no good reason."
I can think of a reason why the Eagles shouldn't trade McNabb - maybe because the Eagles are a better team with him starting than without him. The Eagles are clearly better with a proven veteran quarterback leading an offense full of young stars.
Reid seems like he is pretty happy with his situation, having three quarterbacks who he believes can all start. But McNabb, to me, is clearly the best option they have and with him, they definitely have an opportunity to at least compete with the Saints in the NFC.
For everyone saying that this trade "needs" to happen, do you really think the Eagles are better with Kevin Kolb starting? Really? With McNabb, the Eagles are legit contenders, can't anyone else see that?
If McNabb wasn't motivated by all this, he is now and he wants to win a Super Bowl for Philadelphia. Why take that realistic opportunity away from him, the team and the fans? "Because it's just time for him and the Eagles to break up?" That's bogus.
Kolb and Vick worse options than McNabb and the Eagles would definitely be good enough to compete at the top of the NFC standings with McNabb as the starter.
