Boca Juniors not Renewing Contract of Coach with Barros Schelotto

The coach led the team for the past three years. His contract expired this December and the decision was made not to renew it. Guillermo Barros Schelotto left the technical direction of the Argentine Boca Juniors, after losing to archrival River Plate the final of the Copa Libertadores played last Sunday in Madrid, announced on Friday the president of the club, Daniel Angelici.

“Although the pain and sadness have not yet gone (due to the defeat against River), we understood that the best thing for Boca is a change, to start the year with a new coach, ” said Angelica, accompanied by Barros Schelotto, in a statement to the press.

At his side, the exit of Boca said that “beyond the pain of not having won the Cup, I’m going with peace of mind to have given everything.”

Barros Schelotto (45), the former Boca player, was the club’s technical director for the past three years. His contract expired this December and the decision was made not to renew it. It is still unknown who will supplant it. “Many names are mentioned,” said Angelici.

Under his guidance, Boca won the last two Argentine championships 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, but the fall in the final of the Libertadores against the historic rival plunged into disillusionment with the club.

“I want to thank Guillermo and his coaching staff for fighting this Copa Libertadores until the last instance,” said Angelici.

“Everything that was available was done to reach an instance that is not valued in the country, which is to reach a final, we are not prepared to think that it can be lost, ” summarized the Boca president.
